Check the second poem ("America is a Terrorist") by Abiodun Oyewole, which would go over real well with a certain element over at thee frogpond. Call it my "civilization" contribution for the weekend. Peace.
Did you notice that it took even these victims of American terrorism a minute or two to overcome what seemed like a little nervousness when he first said terrorist? That's the depth of the mindfuck.
DTF, It looks like an African American street festival. Don't know where it is but the the poet/rapper is from Brooklyn. Also Muslim I think. His first line is America is a terrorist. There's a noticeable hush in the crowd. Like they were thinking, uh oh, did he just say what I think he said kind of reaction. But as he recites deeper into the poem, listing the crimes, the crowd loosens up and applauds. The truth has a way of doing that ;o)
The guy's part of the Last Poets crew, which has been around since the late 1960s. They are arguably the first rap group ever, and have been known for all sorts of poetic incitement - one of my personal favorites is "White Man's Got a God Complex."
The poem on the video is one of their newer ones. I used to have a link somewhere to the lyrics to that, but somehow in the change of computers and so on I've managed to lose that.
