Ductape fixes just about everything

So... let's play name that tune...

I am slow Okay? I'm forty and the kids drive me nuts sometimes and the simple answers evade me easily on most days. Once again we have a "Fuck the Troops" diary up and I can't blame anybody. I watch some of the stuff that happens and I say Fuck them too on some days. It always seems like there isn't anything that I can do and sometimes believing that there isn't anything that I can do but sit at this keyboard and bitch keeps me sitting at this keyboard bitching. I contacted the Benderman's last year when I read the story about Kevin fighting going back to Iraq and having his Conscientious Objector Status paperwork seeming to take forever meaning that he was going to be getting on that plane and in Iraq before anything would be decided and that is just a little bit too late! I had so much hope. They had press coverage and they were organized, Monica seemed very upbeat and then Kevin went jail just like my husband said that he would.

Here is a website that lists soldiers who are incarcerated or fighting deployment to Iraq that Ductape put up on the To Hell with American Troops diary. A lot of soldiers don't want to go to Iraq and a lot of them want nothing to do with any of this, but they signed and they don't want to go to jail. A lot of National Guard want absolutely nothing to do this but they are in the same boat and when they go to jail they go alone and sit there by themselves. The people who have dared to fight this by themselves so far are stronger people than I could be right now. Many other soldiers could be stronger too if there was something to strengthen them, something like public outrage and public protest at their trials and public disobedience and others determined to go to jail with them instead of them being all on their own alone in all of this while people just bitch! So where's the protest for these people and where are the protesters? How many more soldiers would walk away from the plane and off the tarmac and declare to fight this illegal war right here face to face with those who started it if they knew we would be there with them and fighting like hell with them?

Okay METAers.... name the hypocrite....

Or this one... I'm really starting to wonder WTF happened to her and BooTrib.

I'm not holding my breath today afraid that someone will stomp me if I do something that they don't like and call me a traitor or Unamerican, I know deep down inside that I am nothing of the sort and I fear no evil for thou art with me!

Not that I want to play armchair psychiatrist but I can tell you as a person who has had PTSD for 10 years now that living with a person with PTSD can be absolute hell sometimes (which is one of the reasons I've decided to spend most of those 10 years alone. My other physical health problems don't exactly make me Mate of the Year either).

That's why I suggested that she receive professional help which, of course, I was attacked for. I think this need to act as a source of protection for her spouse is extremely strong because it may be the only thing she feels she can try to control. There is no controlling the ramifications of PTSD 100%. That need then extends to attempting to protect all of the troops - even when it's clear that that is clearly a source of conflict, as evidenced by statements of hers to the contrary.

/end psychobabble

As for what happened to BT, I think perhaps many of us just had expectations of Booman that simply were not realistic. Over time, he's revealed the strength of his core beliefs when the more feisty discussions forced him to do so. I don't know that he's changed at all. I think our perception of him has. And, the fact that BT became a place for dkos refugees doesn't necessarily mean that his views are that much different from kos's. He provided a place for the disgruntled who had differing views from kos, but his worldview is still intact, regardless of the differences he has with members of his community and that is not necessarily the kindler, gentler version of the DLC line which is what many refugees actually prefer.

And, apparently, there aren't any "troop haters" at dkos who might put her husband's job in jeopardy because she's still posting there.

And I am old enough not to be bothered at all by playing armchair psychiatrist

What's the magic number, you grizzled old terrorist? Are you calling me young? (Because that would be nice). ;)

So was Ms/Mranonmyousspammer@5.45 MT then, she asks? (Alternatively there's some poor random 'rah-rah the U.S. troops' person out there who's probably a bit mystified. Though I guess they were told that they were risking being accused of terrible things they knew not wot of).

FWIW I too think there's more 'poster child' than hypocrisy going on here. There's also some stuff I'm mulling over about how to react to those kinds of accusations (or rather how to not react to them), but it's going to have to wait.
